Disconnect your reader, then go to /pkard, download PKard for Mac v1.7.1, then install it. If you have recently updated your Mac, such as going from Sierra to High Sierra, then you will need to download and install PKard for Mac again as the update process removes key pieces of PKard from your Mac. Now open Keychain Access and see if your CAC is in the Keychains box. Once you have logged in, connect your reader and insert your CAC into the reader. Restarting your Mac without that CAC reader connected allows PCSC to stop and start cleanly. When this happens our software does not know to start and get the data from your CAC. One possibility is that Apple's PCSC service doesn't see that a CAC has been inserted into the reader.
